MEA Report for 2012 - 13



MEA 2012 -2013 – Report

            Respected  Dean Faculty of Engineering & Technology, The Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Chairman MEA, Prof N. Viruthagiri, Vice Chairman Cultural council,  Dr. M. Vaidyanathan Vice Chairman Placement Council, Invited dignitaries off the dais  the student presidents of the various councils and my dear student friends.. A very Good Afternoon to you.

I stand before you to deliver the report of the Mechanical Engineering Association activities for the academic year 2012 – 2013.

As the department has seen the success of the enlarged association in the previous two years and to keep activates on the upbeat, further events were added to the council activities in the present year.
The installation of these office bearers was on 8th August 2012, wherein the then Vice chancellor Dr. M. Ramanathan had installed the office bearers. During the installation the calendar of events for the various councils were presented. Most of the events were followed as per the calendar planned.  Now to give a report of the activities of each council.

To start with – Literary Council
The first activity of this council was an essay competition on 13th August 2012 – Rajiv Gandhi’s Birthday celebrated as the renewable Energy Day. There were 66 Participants of which 14 were selected for prize in 5 different themes.
This was followed by Technical Quiz competition in the same month on 29th August 2012. The finals were conducted on 4th Sept 2012. Total Participants were 130.
A General Knowledge Quiz was conducted for the first time, the preliminary round was on 27th February 2013 and finals were conducted on 11th March 2013. Total Participants were 120 Students.
Debate was conducted on 10th Sept 2012 26 students participated in it.
Photography was in 2 categories Technical and non technical, 17 entries had been registered in both the categories and the winners have been selected.
Short film competition had 6 entries. All the short films had professional aspects incorporated in them. The short film “Naan Nee” was adjudged to be awarded the first prize. A special mention of Mr P. Aravindhan  Final year has to be made for his creative and innovative thoughts on 4 films in the competition. The short film AYUTHAM had participated in a few competitions in other colleges and has won awards in various categories. In appreciation of his representation of Annamalai University in Short Film competitions conducted by other colleges this special award would be presented to him.
The CAD MANIA took place in two categories – 3D & 2D around 24 students Participated. The results were judged by Dr. M.Kalaiselvi Geetha, Mrs A Punitha from the computer science Department. The event was held on 8th March 2013.
The event of paper presentation was on 10th April 2013, and was spread over 4 newer themes like Emerging fuels & Fuel cells, Advanced Engine Technology, Off Highway Engineering & Renewable Energy sources. 18 groups of students were finalized to participate in the paper presentation.   The judges for the event were Mr S. Manikandan Associate Professor & Mr M.R.Rajamanickam Assistant Professor.
All the events of the Literary Council were conducted after 4.30 PM. thereby not compromising on the regular class hours

The Cultural Council.
The council started its activity for the Teachers day, wherein the students showcased their talents in singing and dancing and entertained their gurus on 10th Sept 2012.
Thereafter the preliminary round of singing competition took place on 27th & 28th August 2012. Continued with the second round on 15th Sept 2012. The judges for the singing competition were Dr R Chandra & Mr Muthukrishnan from the Music College. The final round of singing was conducted on 20th January 2013.
The dancing competition was held on 8th September 2012.
The dramatics was held on 5th February 2013.
A cultural quiz was conducted which enthused as many as 110 Participants of which 12 participants were filtered for the finals. The prelims were conducted on 8th March 2013 and finals on 6th April 2013.
All the events of cultural council took place on Saturdays and in the evenings thereby saving class hours.

The Sports Council
As the activities of the sports council of the previous two years was a grand success hence this year more events were added to the sports activities.
The athletic events were added along with the regular events.
This year rolling trophies and Man of the match awards has been instituted for Cricket. This is the only event in which all the batches of all the 3 years participate, hence the Senior Rolling Trophy for the Final year, the Sophomore Rolling Trophy for the IIIrd Year and the Freshmen Rolling Trophy for the IInd Year has been instituted.

In cricket 42 Matches were played and the year wise champions are:
IV Year Champion & Senior Rolling Trophy goes to - I Batch
III Year Champion & Sophomore Rolling Trophy goes to – D Batch
II Year Champion & Freshmen Rolling Trophy goes to – B Batch

In Football 19 Matches were played and the year wise champions are:
IV Year – I Batch
III Year – E Batch
II Year – H Batch

In Volleyball 27 Matches were played the year wise champions are:
IV Year – M Batch
III Year – N Batch
II Year – G Batch

In Basket Ball 10 Matches were played the year wise champions are:
IV Year – A Batch
III Year – B Batch

In Chess 106 Matches were played and In Carom 157 matches were played to determine the year wise Champions. In women’s badminton 16 matches were played in both singles and doubles category.
For the staff matches – Chess & carom matches were conducted. The badminton singles and doubles matches were conducted for the teaching and supporting staff.
For the athletics the following events were identified. Shot-put, High Jump, Long Jump, 1500 Mts, 800 Mts, 400 Mts and 100 Mts The Heats and the finals were conducted on the same day 105 students had participated in the events, it was held on 1st March 2013. The Mped Students of Physical education was the referee for all the events.
A mention on the support rendered by the Department of Physical Education the staff members and the students have to be made for the conduct of sporting events of MEA.

The Placement Council
            This year programs were conducted under the placement council in addition to the events conducted by the Faculty placement cell.

Aptitude tests were conducted for the final year students it was a series of 3 tests conducted from 14th to 19th August 2012.
A Training program for the final year students for the placements was conducted with the help of professional Trainers from M/S Aacumen Careers. The first Phase of the C2CTP was done for 105 students from 28th January 2013 to 2nd February 2013. The program was inaugurated by Dr. RM. Kathiresan Dean Faculty of Agriculture.
The second Phase of the C2CTP was conducted from 12th to 16th February 2013. Wherein the students were interviewed and shortlisted for intensive training. 32 Students have undergone the intensive training.
This event was coordinated by Mr M. Premnath Asst Prof Mech Engg.
In conclusion I take this opportunity to thank our Head of the Department Dr. N. Krishnamohan who had wholeheartedly supported the various activities of the MEA, The Vice chairmen of the various councils and all the others for gracing this occasion and making this valedictory function a grand success
