and my dear student friends.. A very Good Afternoon to you.
I stand before you to deliver the report of the
Mechanical Engineering Association activities for the academic year 2011 – 2012.
As the department has seen the success of the enlarged
association in the previous year, to keep activates on the upbeat further
events were added to the council activities in the present year.
The installation of these office bearers was on 7th
September 2011, wherein our revered Vice chancellor had installed the office
bearers… A new council - The Class council was formed and the class
representatives formed a part of it. During the installation the calendar of
events for the various councils were presented. Most of the events were
followed as per the calendar planned. Now to give a report of the activities of each
council.
To start with –
Literary council
The first activity of this council was an essay
competition on 20th August 2011 – Rajiv Gandhi’s Birthday celebrated
as the renewable Energy Day. There were 60 Participants of which 10 were
selected for prize in 5 different themes.
This was followed by a General Quiz competition in the
month of October 2011 in 3 levels
As a part of MECHSEM the following events were
conducted:

Unlike the previous years, the events of Mechsem were spread
over the entire even semester The Quiz and debate took place in the month of
January 2012. The paper presentation, extempore and CAD competition took place
in the month of February 2012. The inauguration of the paper presentation was
on 13th February 2012, The Dean, FEAT Inaugurated the event, and was
spread over 4 newer themes like Nanotechnology, Reduce reuse recycle, aero
structures & weapon technologies Advance technologies and fuels. 19 group
of students participated in the paper presentation. All the events of MECHSEM were conducted after
4.30 PM. thereby not compromising on the regular class hours. The judges for
the event were Dr M. Ramajayam, Dr. T. Shanmugavadivel, Dr M. Loganathan, Dr
James Gunasekaran, Mr S. Saravanan, Mr C M Raguraman and Mr P Ramesh
The new events introduced at MECHSEM were CAD
Competition, Photography, short film and Drawing/sketching.
The CAD MANIA took place in two categories – 3D &
2D around 20 students Participated. The results were judged by Dr. Rm.
Chandrashekaran, Prof V. Srinivas from the computer science Department.
Photography was in 2 categories Technical and non
technical, 52 entries had been registered in both the categories.
Short film competition had 8 entries being a maiden
effort by most of the groups; All the short films had professional aspects
incorporated in them. The short film “Karpom Karpippom” was adjudged to be
awarded the first prize.
Eight entries were received for the drawing
competition.
The staff coordinators for literary events were Mr S.
Sathish kumar, Mr S. Krishnan & Mr R. Senthil Kumar Asst Prof’s of Mech Engg
Coming to the
Cultural council.
The council started its activity for the Teachers day,
wherein the students showcased their talents in singing and dancing and
entertained their gurus on 10th Sept 2011.
Thereafter the preliminary round of singing competition
took place on 17th Sept 2011. The judges for the singing competition
were from the Music College. The finalists were selected.
The final round of singing was conducted on 21st
January 2012.
The dancing competition was held on 28th
January 2012.
A cultural quiz was conducted which enthused as many
as 170 Participants of which 20 participants were filtered for the finals. The
finals were conducted on 17th February 2012, the event was overseen
by Prof V. Srinivas of CSE Dept.
The Grand finale of all the winners showcasing their
talents took place today morning from 10.00 AM.
All the events of cultural council took place on
Saturdays and in the evenings thereby saving class hours.

The next is the
sports council
As the activities of the sports council of the
previous year was a grand success hence this year more events were added to the
sports activities. The events added along with Cricket Football & Volley
ball were:
Chess
Carom
Badminton
This year women’s matches were conducted in carom
& badminton
For the staff members Chess, Carom, Badminton Singles
and doubles were conducted along with Cricket.
In cricket 38 Matches were played and the year wise
champions are :
IV Year – K Batch
III Year – I Batch
II Year – H Batch
In Football 17 Matches were played and the year wise
champions are :
IV Year – I Batch
III Year – I Batch
II Year – C Batch
In Volleyball 19 Matches were played the year wise
champions are :
IV Year – K Batch
III Year – J Batch
II Year – N Batch
In Chess 76 Matches were played, In Carom both men and
women 92 matches were played and women’s badminton 8 matches were played.
For the staff matches – In cricket 4 matches were
played and the supporting staff team emerged as winners. Staff chess 24 matches
and carom 32 matches were conducted.

& K Manikandan Asst Prof of Mech engg for Indoor events
A mention of the
field discipline has to be made here. All the registered team members
maintained the decorum of the field be it in attire or in attitude.
We thank Dr G
Ravindran Dean of Physical education, Dr Subramanian and the PG students for
umpiring and having accommodated our teams to play at the Pavilion.
In conclusion may I thank one and all for gracing this
occasion and making this valedictory function a grand success
